Three different jobs are often confused. Receipt printers produce the customer slip on a roll. Label printers produce adhesive labels for products and shipping. Card printers produce plastic ID and membership cards. Buying the wrong one is the most common mistake we see.

Deciding what you need

• Receipt — 58mm or 80mm thermal rolls, USB or LAN, usually with a cash drawer port.
• Label — direct thermal for shipping labels, thermal transfer with a ribbon where labels must last.
• Card — dye-sublimation printers such as the ZC300 for staff and membership cards.
