Handheld Inkjet Coding Printer

Handheld inkjet coding printer — a portable unit for printing directly onto products, cartons and packaging.

This is a different tool from a label printer. Instead of printing a label to be applied, it jets ink straight onto the surface: batch codes, production dates, expiry dates, lot numbers and logos, printed onto cartons, bags, pipes, timber or bottles as they pass.

The usual reason to buy one is compliance. Food, pharmaceutical and industrial packaging routinely has to carry a production and expiry code, and a handheld coder does that without a fixed production line or a conveyor-mounted system.

Ink selection matters as much as the printer: porous surfaces such as cardboard take standard ink, while plastics, glass and metal need a fast-drying solvent ink that will not smudge.
