Bixolon XD3-40d 4-inch Direct Thermal Label Printer

Bixolon XD3-40d is a 4-inch direct thermal label printer — the standard width for shipping and parcel labels.

Four inches is the size the courier industry standardised on, so this is the class of printer to buy if you are printing waybills and delivery labels rather than shelf tags. Direct thermal means no ribbon: the image forms in the label coating itself, so the only consumable is the roll.

The trade-off is permanence. Direct thermal print fades with heat, sunlight and abrasion, which is entirely acceptable for a parcel scanned within days and unsuitable for a label that must still read next year. For long-lived labels, choose a thermal transfer printer instead.
