Label printers put adhesive labels on products, shelves and parcels. The critical choice is between direct thermal and thermal transfer, and it depends entirely on how long the label must survive.

Direct thermal or thermal transfer

• Direct thermal — no ribbon, lowest running cost. Print fades with heat and sunlight over months. Correct for shipping labels read once.
• Thermal transfer — uses a ribbon, print lasts years. Correct for asset tags, shelf labels and anything stored or handled long-term.

Match label width to the printer, and check the core diameter of the roll. Label stock in common sizes including 25×38mm and 10×15cm shipping labels is kept alongside. Priced in EGP.
